Arthur Fleck, portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, grapples with a severe case of split personality, manifesting as the infamous Joker, a comedian whose humor is lethal. In the preceding installment, he commits six murders under the guise of the Joker. As he faces trial, his attorney, Maryanne Stewart (Catherine Keener), attempts to leverage his mental condition in his defense, arguing that Fleck should not be held accountable for the Joker’s actions. However, Fleck dismisses her counsel and opts to present his own defense, much to the amusement of the attention-seeking defense attorney, Harvey Dent (Harry Lawtey). During his incarceration, Fleck encounters Harleen “Lee” Quinzel (Lady Gaga), a troubled singer whose alter ego is Harley Quinn. She becomes captivated by the Joker, perceiving him as her counterpart. Through her influence, Fleck begins to explore his own musical talents, transitioning from viewing himself as a mere stand-up comic to envisioning himself as a charismatic performer akin to Fred Astaire, capable of captivating audiences with song and dance.
