Plot Overview
The film consists of four segments, each telling a distinct yet interconnected story:
🔹 Emma – Directed by Rima Das, this story follows Emma, a talented dancer struggling with Usher’s Syndrome, a condition affecting her hearing. Despite facing discrimination, she finds inspiration in Nathan, a successful deaf dancer who helps her embrace her uniqueness.
🔹 Nandini – Directed by Onir, this segment explores the emotional reunion between Indraneel, a queer Indian man, and his estranged father, Mihir. As they come together in Melbourne to perform a traditional Asthi Visarjan (ash-scattering) ceremony, they navigate themes of grief, forgiveness, and familial reconciliation.
🔹 Jules – Directed by Arif Ali, this story centers on Sakshi, a newlywed food blogger, and Jules, a homeless woman in Melbourne. Despite their contrasting lives, they form an unexpected bond as they struggle with societal expectations and personal challenges.
🔹 Setara – Directed by Kabir Khan, this segment follows Setara, a young Afghan refugee in Melbourne, as she fights for her identity and independence in a new country. The story delves into themes of migration, resilience, and cultural adaptation.
Release and Reception
The film premiered at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne on 15 August 2024 and is scheduled for theatrical release in Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji on 6 March 2025, followed by India on 14 March 2025.
